High street Fashion

I had a browse through high street store websites looking for modern day fashion items that we can interpret into the 'Drag King'/ The Beatles, fashion stlye. Trying to keep with a black/blue/grey/brown colour pallet. It may just help when styling the shoot on monday.

Montage:

The studio images were really awesome, the boys recreated some famous poses that we had all found from band albums or other photography. However we incorporated some modern styling and some modern poses to give it a 21st century look.
As we discussed in the studio, we are going to go out to Liverpool and use women models on location however style the models as men and go for the androgynous look, to reflect our chosen appropriation.

I thought it would be a good idea to use the Images that amy has took on location in Liverpool in the background of the studio shots, this is showing our inspiration of appropriating the type of art form on the Sgt Pepper Album which is Montage.
A montage is a collection of images (of any description wether it be photography, a sign post, a trademark...) that are constructed in a collage fashion (randomly pasted up) and can an effective way of showing numerous images to the audience that connote the artists message or statement.

or they can be graphic, this one if from total film, and is a compilation of films

The Sgt Pepper album is our main inspiration, and our focus of appropriation

M ONTAGE 

I find it fascinating how Mr Peter Blake got from this photo-shoot with the cut out cardboard figures to the dynamic and iconic front cover of the Sgt Pepper album.

The colouring of the album is so tacky it wouldn't really fit in todays society because its such a mish-mash of palettes and has no structure. However I love it! and Im sure the entire group loves it so....

Maybe we could construct a modern montage, with photography of the studio, on location and even Amy's Liverpool images as a possible final image?

Penny Lane is in my ears...

I went to Liverpool to search for a location for a second photo shoot we was planning on doing. I visited Penny Lane and found some really good spots to shoot in, I really liked the rural and deteriorated effect of the street and it is one of the most iconic places linked with The Beatles. 

This seemed to be a historic landmark and could influence the overall mood to our images, I also really like the drabness to the photographs in contrast with some really bright colours (red, green and blue). This seems to represent the work of Peter Blake and could influence the direction we take with the shoot.

Like most of the imagry of the Beatles, they are found black and white.

To create these images below I changed the images to black and white, and then experimented with the contrast, exposure, and levels.

I thought these images were succsessful, and also will be useful if we experiment with collage.

Photoshoot One.

Here are some clips from the first photo shoot we did in the studio. We decided to use four male models and style them in early 60's formal wear. We tried to modernise the look with skinny fit trousers, velvet and skinny ties. I really like the smart but casual look about the outfits and the relaxed vibe it gives off. We kept to using a simple colour scheme of black and white which proved really effective and we also thought this would look great if we decide to change the pictures to black and white afterwards, as it would give a great contrast.

We used an acoustic guitar in some of the shots as a prop, to give off the 'band' vibe and it also looked really retro and added colour to the images. Also, in some of the images we added different coloured flowers to the shirts and blazers, we chose to use similar colours to the Sgt. Pepper album cover as it gives a really bright edge. These could be kept in colour whilst the rest of the image is changed to black and white, I think this could look really effective.

Men's Formal wear.

Recently 1960's suits have been in style and have been a trend in the men's fashion world. The thin ties. Fitted blazers. Straight cut trouser and the simple black, white and grey colour scheme. I love the simplicity about the look as it gives a real classy and elegant effect. Men of that time were expected to dress formally and make and effort all the time. I think this trend is reappearing in today's fashion world and boys and men are taking fashion more seriously.

We decided for our first photo shoot we would use male models dressed in a similar style to show the era of the early 60's, were The Beatles started. As towards the end of the 60's style began to become more relaxed and the 'psychedelia' fashion was introduced.
