Mona Lisa

The YSL campaign took famous classic paintings and used them as inspiration for their campaign,
modernising them creating and adapting them to give a present sense of style and an edgy look, for example, the use of male models topless with tattoos would have not been acceptable then but with the modern world it is.

WHAT IS AN ICONIC IMAGE?

An iconic image is a picture, painting or photograph that has meaning to its creation, it could teach, influence, inspire and could also have effects on emotions.

Iconic images are usually taken from the past. what happened years back that people refer to today... some examples are the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, The Scream by Edvard Munch, Tank man (the unknown rebel 1989), The World Trade Centre attack in 2001, album covers from The Rolling Stones (the Red tongue) Pink Floyd, and The Beatles.

The power of some of the images inspire people to be better as these images attack emotions especially the first example. The second image we see imitated alot as they are advertising posters for a vote that took part, and this image was a good advertisment as its aimed at you and the pointing finger seemed to have power and demand.
